Bargaining update - 18 April 2024

Dear members,

Bargaining update: intensive negotiations continue

We are now locked in intensive negotiations with Monash HR and senior executives, including Vice-Provost Matthew Gillespie. Discussions have been in-depth, frank and fearless on key issues, including:

  • job security
  • decasualisation
  • workloads
  • leave
  • pay

In particular, and especially, we are fighting hard to build mandated pathways to continuing employment for fixed-term and casual staff – for more permanent jobs.

Some sticking points remain

Better job security, competitive pay and better conditions for staff are actually in Monash University's best interests – and indeed, in the interests of our students, research partners and the community. A world top-50 institution won't stay that way for long if it can't or won't treat its staff properly.

The University has committed to presenting revised offers on outstanding issues in coming days. The door is open for Vice-Chancellor Pickering to give staff what we need.

Intensive negotiations continue this Tuesday. We'll keep you posted.

In union,

NTEU Monash Branch
