Over 35,000 jobs have been lost in the higher education sector throughout the past two years.
For years prior to that, university staff have been increasingly exposed to uncertainty around our job security, workloads and whether our pay will keep up with the rising cost of living.
In fact, only 1 in 3 people employed in tertiary education are in permanent positions.
Our staff agreements are the essence of our working conditions. More often we see universities strip away our conditions and put pressure on our workloads, which ultimately affects the quality of education for our students.
During the week of 1 – 5 May 2023, staff in universities across the country will take action so that we can create better unis and better workplaces for the staff within them.
We can’t do this alone. Join us to build public awareness around the importance of safe workloads, secure jobs and a fair pay rise so that our universities can flourish.
We encourage everyone to take action and join us by saying ‘enough is enough.’
We deserve fair pay, safe workloads and secure jobs. Better universities now.
